The Trust created by Mr. Bromelsick had several other directives other than the purchase of property. Every year all three branches of the Trust hold a Christmas party. Boy Scout, Girl Scout and 4-H leaders come together to plan and put on a Christmas Party. Thousands of Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and 4-H members have attended the Bromelsick Christmas Party for more than 50 years.
Alfred Bromelsick was born February 28, 1878. He was a successful business man in Lawrence Kansas. He never married. When he died on April 4, 1950, his will created a trust for the benefit of the Girl Scouts of Lawrence, the 4-H Club and the Boy Scouts of Lawrence. Mr. Bromelsick provided that the Trustee should save a portion of the income from the Trust and at an appropriate time, purchase property to be held in Trust for the benefit of the Boy Scouts of Lawrence. In 1961 a committee which included former Kansas University Chancellor Raymond Nichols purchased a 160-acre tract to satisfy the trust directive. A deed to the property was given on March 29, 1961. The property was purchased from the Estate of Mary Nell Bagby for $10,000. The Camp Bromelsick Foundation, Inc. manages that property and the money that is paid from the Bromelsick Trust for the benefit of the Boy Scouts of Lawrence. The Committee did an excellent job selecting the property that lies just to the north of Clinton State Park.
The Trust also provides for a special award for those Boy Scouts in Lawrence (the Committee uses other funds to expand this award to all Scouts in the Pelathe District) to receive a special award. A grant of money for a high adventure trip is available. Eagle Scouts often benefit from this award when going to Jamborees, Philmont Scout Ranch, Charles Sommers Canoe Base or similar high adventure experience.
